Valley Camp Museum Description
Climb aboard a huge 1917 steam-powered freighter to learn more about maritime history and life on the big ships that made their way through the Great Lakes. On board the Valley Camp you'll find a large number of exhibits, from photography and video presentations to an aquarium, artifacts and even lifeboats rescued from the sunken Edmund Fitzgerald. Tour the deck, take a look inside the engine room, and see how and where the sailors lived and worked.
Kid Tips
Babies: Carry, sling, or backpack your baby. The museum is only partly stroller-friendly, and the stairs are steep.
School-Age Kids: Kids this age will love going up on the deck of the boat and seeing the crew's quarters. The lower part of the museum may not be as thrilling, but you can get through it quickly if their interest is waning.
Planning Notes
- Wear sunscreen and/or hats. A large portion of the tour takes place outdoors, on the huge deck of the Valley Camp.
- Wear sturdy shoes. The upper decks can be slippery.
