Glass-Bottomed Shipwreck Tour Description
This may just be the highlight of your trip (for your kids, at least). During the two-hour tour, you can view three different shipwrecks -- an 1880s schooner, an 1895 steam barge, and a 1926 wooden steamer -- still immortalized in the frigid Lake Superior waters, through special viewing wells in the bottom of the ship. The wrecks are in relatively shallow water, and the water is very clear, so you can really get a good view. Plus, the tour is narrated by knowledgeable guides; their stories will fascinate kids. (Ask about the prehistoric forest at the bottom of Lake Superior!)
Kid Tips
Babies: Babies may be lulled into naptime by the rocking of the boat. There's no room to push a stroller on board, but the seats are comfy enough to hold a sleeping baby.
School-Age Kids: Shipwrecks -- need we say more?
Planning Notes
- Be prepared for motion sickness. Before you set out, dispense medicine to those who may be prone to seasickness.
