River Cuale Craft Market Description

Don't be confused; this market goes by both this name and Mercado Municipal, but if you tell passersby or taxi drivers that you want to go to the River Cuale market, they'll know what you mean. Occupying an entire city block along the paved shoulder of the river between two bridges, this series of indoor/outdoor market stalls has every craft, souvenir, or type of clothing you could ask for. Barter is the law of the land though; the first price is almost never the real price. To get a smile, ask for the "Mexican price" instead of the "tourist price;" just asking should bring the price down at least a bit.

Planning Notes

  • Combine with lunch or dinner at The River Cafe. One of Puerto Vallarta's iconic destination restaurants is the River Cafe, located right on the riverbank with its entrance next to the Mercado Municipal A great way to spend an afternoon is to do an hour or two of shopping, then have lunch or dinner at this landmark restaurant, with river views (and the sound of rippling water) adding plenty of atmosphere to your meal.
