Plaza Principal Description
The gathering place for families in every Mexican city is the central plaza, and Plaza Principal is one of the great ones. Located across the street from Los Arcos, it's the central landmark of Puerto Vallarta's old town, known as El Centro. This part of town is very picturesque, with cobblestone streets, palm trees, and flower boxes full of bougainvilla everywhere. On one side of Plaza Principal is City Hall, Palacio Municipal. During weekends and holidays, mariachi bands and other musicians perform in the plaza.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Young kids in particular will probably like the entertainers who frequent the plaze on Sundays and in the early evenings on weekends.
School-Age Kids: Jugglers, musicians, dancers, and other street entertainers set up small performance spaces by throwing down rugs or mats, and the performances can be a lot of fun.
Planning Notes
- Avoid rush hour. The Plaza Principal is also a bus hub, so during commute hours it's crowded with people trying to get out of town after working in the shops and hotels, and there's not much going on.
