Playa Caracol Description

Nice beaches abound in Cancun, so you might think that the beach outside your hotel may be all you need, but Playa Caracol (Snail Beach) is a popular beach with tourists and locals alike. Conveniently located in the Hotel Zone, it is close to restaurants and its sapphire blue waters remain calm even when the waves pick up at other beaches. When you tire of sunbathing, stroll across the street to the Mayfair Plaza for food and shopping. The white sand and clear, calm waters make it an ideal beach for families with babies and young children.

Kid Tips

Babies: The perfect beach for babies, with calm water and warm sand.

Toddlers & Pre-K: Toddlers and preschoolers will love it here, especially if you bring along sand toys.

School-Age Kids: Great swimming in calm waters and beach combing in white sand make this a first-rate place to spend the day with school-aged kids.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Weddings are often held on this romantic beach and your hormonal teenager will like the people watching, body surfing, and just about everything else.

Planning Notes

  • Bring sunscreen. Or better yet, wear sun-protecting suits. You'll be having so much fun swimming and looking for shells that you'll forget how crisp and red the Mexican sun can leave your skin.
  • Bring a light jacket. Even though this is one of the calmest and least windy beaches in Cancun, the weather can be unpredictable and it's good to bring layers.
  • Expect crowds. This is a popular beach, not a hidden treasure, so don't be surprised if it's crowded.
  • Try Playa Langosta. If you'd rather be at a less crowded beach, Playa Langosta, which has a shower and bathroom facility, is another good choice for families.
