Berkshire Scenic Railway Museum Description
The whistle, the railroad crossing bell, the conductor in old-time hat and vest yelling, "All aboooooard!" There's just something about kids and trains. Scenic rides aboard this mobile museum are in vintage 1920s cars, pulled behind a diesel engine run by an overalls-clad engineer. Excursions are the perfect length for little riders—about 30 minutes to Stockbridge, with a quick stop midway in Lee. It's a perfectly lovely ride, past foot bridges and over the river, that parents will enjoy just as much.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: A shorter roundtrip to Lee is offered once a day at noon, running about 45 minutes roundtrip.
School-Age Kids: Curious kids can get a look at the engine when the train is stopped—just ask the engineer.
Pre-Teens & Teens: A great way for older kids to see the area is to take the morning train to Stockbridge, spend a few hours in town, and then take the afternoon train home.
Planning Notes
- Two trips. Trains run twice daily roundtrips on Saturdays and Sundays.
- Cash or charge. Trains can be picked up in Lenox, Lee, or Stockbridge. Tickets are cash-only in Lee and Stockbridge.
- Layover. A 20-minute layover allows for the engine to be detached and re-attached for the turnaround. Get off at the station or stay on the train to watch.
