Animagic: Museum of Animation, Special Effects and Art Description
How often does a kid get to meet an Academy Award winner? More importantly, how often does a kid get to make a movie with one? Eugene Mamut won his technical Oscar for creating a special-effects gizmo; he now lives in Lee, where he helps kids launch their own movie careers. Students are rapt as they work side by side with Mamut to create clay models and then animate them using stop action and computers. The finished short is set to music and put on video to take home. Magic!
Kid Tips
School-Age Kids: Best for this age. Even kids with short attention spans will be captivated for the entire adventure.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Older kids with computers may have already begun making movies of their own, and the basic animation may strike them as too simplistic. Still, those truly interested in film might love the tips from a pro.
Planning Notes
- Appointments necessary. The small on-site museum and gift shop are free, but workshops (the highlight for kids) are by appointment only.
- Bring questions. Mamut enjoys sharing his craft and happily answers questions. Have kids prepare a few before the big day.
