Flying Horses Carousel Description
For little kids, the best part about this Martha's Vineyard classic -- the oldest continuously operating carousel in the country -- is that it's a "challenging" ride. Visitors come not just to admire the beautiful horses (meticulously crafted and made with real horse hair), but to try their hands at a lost tradition -- grabbing for the brass ring to win a free ride. The small size and the fact that the horses don't go up and down makes it admittedly a snooze for the teen set. For younger kids, however, it's an adventure.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Rings on the outside right are placed far away from the horses. Have kids reach for those near the smaller horses on the inside left.
Planning Notes
- Make it a short stay. The carousel itself is just a short visit. Make sure to build it around a longer visit to Oak Bluffs for ice cream or shopping.
