Joseph Silva State Beach Description
On hot summer days, scads of families come here to collect shells and splash in the gentle surf. Unlike nearby ocean beaches, which might be a bit more picturesque, "state beach" (as it's known to locals) has a gradual incline and calm waves, thanks to its location on Nantucket Sound. Observant families will recognize the scenery (save for the shark) from the Spielberg classic "Jaws," including a famous bridge that's been named in the film's honor.
Kid Tips
Pre-Teens & Teens: Older kids might prefer the more interesting surf and scenery at the island's South Beach State Park.
Planning Notes
- Stick to two wheels. This is a good beach to bike to, as parking spaces tend to fill up by mid-morning on summer days.
- Heed the rules. Rangers are very strict about such things as kite flying and dune preservation.
