Capawock Theater Description
Parents old enough to remember single-screen movie theaters and the "click, click" sound of the projector will wax nostalgic at this vintage screen gem. Built in 1912, the classic movie house stood silent for two years before reopening -- amid many sighs of relief -- as a beloved theater and community gathering spot. It's easy to imagine classic screenings of "Gone With the Wind," though these days you're more likely to find "Good Luck Chuck." No matter, while today's multiplex theaters may have cushy stadium seats, Capawock's old-time trappings, plus the inevitable and always amusing projector breakdown, is like a warm, comfy chair all by itself.
Kid Tips
Pre-Teens & Teens: Kids who've grown up on microwave popcorn can try the real thing -- the theater makes it with real butter.
Planning Notes
- Arrive early. The smallish theater (100 or so seats) doesn't accommodate a whole lot of people.
- Get the scoop. Be sure to enjoy the old-time ambience outside with a treat from the ice cream shop in the courtyard.
