The Captain Penniman House Description
What was it like to be a whaling captain on the high seas? Find out while touring Captain Edward Penniman's house, built in the French Second Empire style in 1868 (and the first in Eastham to have indoor plumbing). Located just beyond the house is the Fort Hill Overlook -- one of the most beautiful vistas on all of Cape Cod, overlooking Nauset Marsh and Nauset Split. The half-mile Red Maple Swamp Trail contains a boardwalk trail through the heart of the swamp, an easy trek for children.
