Heritage Museum and Gardens Description
There's a little something for everyone at the Heritage Museum and Gardens: a gorgeous 100-year-old, hand-carved carousel that children adore; 30 antique cars; a windmill; an art collection; a natural history museum; and 100 acres of gardens. Kids will go ga-ga over the Pirates of New England exhibit, built inside a huge ship that houses a treasure chest, hammock, and little jail (word is they're working on making the jail operational). Imaginative children will just love being captain of the ship.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: The museum staff is happy to oblige kids who want to ride again and again and again. The only wrinkle: they have to stand in line for each go-round.
School-Age Kids: They'll marvel at the ship made out of Legos.
Planning Notes
- Be a kid again. A carousel ride is free with admission.
- Check the online schedule. A variety of events are planned in the gardens, so check their calendar for ones that appeal to your clan.
- Enjoy the grounds. Bring a picnic lunch (no glass containers allowed) or check out the Carousel Café for breakfast sandwiches, panini, wraps, salads, lobster rolls, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, desserts, and more.
