USS Constitution Museum Description
Built in 1797, the three-masted frigate known as Old Ironsides is so tough that cannonballs bounced off her two-foot oak hull. Yes, that's how she earned her nickname. It also means she can definitely withstand the pitter-patter of little feet. On a 30-minute tour, you'll see Paul Revere's contribution (a metalworker, he made the ship's bolts and copper sheathing), touch the cannons, and learn about the courageous powder monkeys (the young boys who carried gunpowder to the ship's gunners during battle). Afterward, head for the adjacent USS Constitution Museum, where your youngsters can try their hands at shipbuilding, view models of Old Ironsides, and blast the British with cannons in a video game. The museum also, from time to time, holds children's programs and costumed reenactments.
