Skywalk Observatory & Exhibit Description

You can't get a better view of Boston than from here, 50 floors up at the top of the Prudential Tower. When you get off the elevator and pay for your ticket, you'll be offered an audio device that has a self-guided tour, with different channels for adults and children. In addition, there's a movie to see and a small exhibit about Boston's immigrants (Irish, Italian, and African). If you don't have a lot of time in Boston, the Skywalk isn't a must but it is a terrific way to get your bearings and see the city in its entirety. Your kids will enjoy it too.

Kid Tips

Babies: No glitzy lights or scary noises means this is a great place for baby to sleep.

Toddlers & Pre-K: The recorded audio tour is going to go over their heads but toddlers will enjoy the view (for about five minutes) and the movie. If you've only got a toddler or preschooler, skip this venue.

School-Age Kids: Lots of history and interesting information on the audio tour that is designed for this age group makes this a fun place for school-aged kids.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Try coming at night with your pre-teen or teen when the stars are out and the city glitters.

Planning Notes

  • Bring an I.D. Security guards won't let you on the elevators without one.
  • Bring gum. The elevator is like Willy Wonka's -- it goes up so fast that your ears pop.
  • A nice way to start. The exhibits here aren't as interesting as the view and some may find the audio tour to have too much information, but if you're new to Boston this is a good way to see it all from up high and then plan the rest of your trip.

Just the Facts
