Faneuil Hall Description

This is the coolest urban marketplace your family will visit in the United States, with impromptu street performances, historic buildings all around you, and a million little boutiques and food stores (125 shops and 21 restaurants according to the official count, plus food stalls). Also referred to as Quincy Market, Faneuil Hall Marketplace is actually made up of four historic buildings which have their own stop on the famed Freedom Trail.

The structures are connected by a public courtyard which is always bustling with vendors and performers, from jugglers and musicians, to clowns on tricycles. Throughout the buildings, particularly Quincy Market, you can find every food you've heard of and many you haven't. Some of Boston's best restaurants, like Pizzeria Regina, have stalls in Faneuil Hall, so you can sample their delicacies. Bring your appetite and take your time meandering through this very popular location.

Kid Tips

Toddlers & Pre-K: Street performers, fresh cookies, and trinkets of every kind will capture your toddler's eye.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Nonstop shopping and people watching will keep your teen entertained.

Planning Notes

  • Go hungry! There's so much good food here, you'll want to try everything (and you should), so bring your appetite.
  • Leave the stroller behind. Better to put the little one in a backpack and have your hands free to negotiate purchases and elbow your way through the crowds.
  • Go in the morning. The lunch rush is crazy, between the tourists and the business people who come to buy lunch, so beat the crowds by going for brunch instead of lunch.
  • Take the T. Faneuil Hall is an easy walk from the Government Center stop on the Green Line.
