Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park Description
This friendly neighborhood park, where you're more likely to find locals than tourists, is located behind the New England Aquarium in the North End. In addition to an elaborate play structure and a huge sandbox, the Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park has a beautiful view of the harbor. It's also got a spray fountain and a wisteria-covered walkway that provides shade when Boston's sun gets too hot. Don't forget to sit under the trees and enjoy the people watching.

Toddlers & Pre-K: Huge sandbox and spray fountain. What could be more fun?
School-Age Kids: Good climbing structures and monkey bars for school kids. Throw in the sandbox and the view of the harbor and they're happy.
Pre-Teens & Teens: You often see business folks and tourists relaxing in this park, on the benches under the wisteria. Your teen will like it too.
Planning Notes
- Bring sunscreen. The play structures and sand box have no shade, so bring sunscreen and sunhats for more comfortable play.
- Bring a picnic. There are no picnic tables but there are benches that face the harbor, and shady spots on the grass for a picnic.
- Take the T. The park is just a few blocks from the T. Take the Blue Line to the aquarium and walk around the Marriot Hotel to the park.
- Combine with the aquarium. It's a nice place to come to be outside or picnic after you've spent a few hours at the aquarium.
- Check out a concert. Free public concerts are often put on in the summer.
