Cadillac Mountain Description
There's something deflating about hiking a mountain only to find the summit filled with cars and passengers. But the view from atop Acadia's granddaddy peak is not to be missed, so save your hikes for other island peaks and join the rest of the gawkers via car (the Island Explorer bus does not make the trip). Kids love to scramble around on Cadillac's granite shoulders, and at 1,530 feet, the 360-degree views are simply stunning. If you can time it right, catch the sunrise or sunset show; kids get a kick out of the fact that they're on the spot that's often first to greet the sun in the whole U. S. of A.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: The parking lot is busy atop the mountain, but toddlers will be awed by this new perspective.
Planning Notes
- Wait for clear weather. Otherwise fog and clouds will mask the view.
- Dress warmly. It's typically cool and windy on top. Wear comfortable shoes.
Just the Facts
Hours: The summit road is closed from December 1 through April 14. In season, it may also be closed due to fog or other bad weather; call ahead if you're in doubt.
Fees: $10 - $20
Recommended Time: Less than 1 hour

The Views, The Views, The Views

What we loved:
Did I mention the Views? The paths make it easier.
What we didn't love:
If someone has a cane the steps are tricky.
It was tough keeping the 8 year olds off of the areas forbidden but not a biggy. Sunset is not to be missed atop the mountain. The drive up is great & stopping along the way at each of the asigned areas can be fun with kids or for the shutter bugs. Beautiful! Read More
