African American Museum Description

For a smaller, personalized trip through African American history and culture, try this by-appointment-only museum in Treme, the oldest surviving black community in the country. Built in 1828-29, the house is one of five restored buildings in this Creole villa. Inside, rotating exhibits share the home with permanent dispalys of African beadwork, masks, musical instruments, and other artifacts. While you're there, enjoy the gorgeous grounds, courtyard, and gazebo.
