Honey Island Swamp Tour Description
One of the few unspoiled swamps left in the country, the 250-square-mile Honey Island swamp is a maze of river channels overhung with moss-draped cypress trees. Your kids will be beside themselves trying to spot alligators, wolves, exotic birds, and maybe even the rare Florida cougar. The boat itself is an open-sided flat-bottom barge with comfortable bench seating.

Kid Tips
Babies: Not the best choice for babies, unless you want to go so badly it's worth holding him the entire time.
School-Age Kids: Get seats near the rail so shorter people can see more.
Planning Notes
- Bring bug spray. You'll encounter a lot of mosquitoes at the swamp.
- Good to know. The departure point is an hour and a half outside of New Orleans, so plan your time accordingly. Transportation provided at additional cost.
- Summer is better. Reptiles hibernate when it's cold, so this is one activity it's actually best to do in late spring, summer or early fall.
