Carriage Ride Through French Quarter Description
Everyone's first stop in New Orleans should be an exploration of this beautiful, historic district with its narrow alleys, quaint shops, and flower-draped wrought-iron balconies. One of the best ways to see the French Quarter is by horse-drawn carriage; not only does the stately pace give you plenty of photo ops, but the clop clop clop on the cobblestones will enhance your kids' sense of going back in time. The breeze will also be welcome on a hot, humid day. Plan for a lunch stop in the French Market on the riverfront, where everyone can fill up on Po' Boys while listening to live jazz.

Kid Tips
Babies: Streets are bumpy, so you'll want to hold your baby close. Keep in mind that the French Market is too crowded to be comfortable with a stroller.
School-Age Kids: You might want to avoid Bourbon Street with impressionable kids, as it's primarily a corridor for nightlife.
Pre-Teens & Teens: If older kids are too self-conscious to be seen in something as openly touristy as a carriage, wait until they're tired enough to appreciate the lift or skip it.
Planning Notes
- Try other neighborhoods too. If you prefer to amble the French Quarter on foot, you can still take fun carriage rides through the Garden District or cemeteries. Those who happen to be there at holiday time absolutely must take a carriage ride through City Park, where lights strung on the trees make it a winter wonderland.
