Chicago Childrens Theatre Description
The new-ish Chicago Children's Theatre (it mounted its first performance in 2006) stages lavish Broadway-style productions for kids ages 5 and up, though at $12-$30 for tickets, it's much more affordable than Broadway! The shows feature professional adult actors, and take place in a variety of Chicago locations, including a circus-style tent in downtown Grant Park.
Kid Tips
Babies: Babies and theater -- even children's theater -- are rarely a good match. Skip it or be prepared for her to be startled by loud singing and noises.
Toddlers & Pre-K: The theatre stages some productions certain to thrill the younger set, like the recent "Go, Dog, Go", a colorful 90-minute spectacle based on the popular early-reader book.
School-Age Kids: Kids this age have loved recent shows like "A Year With Frog and Toad."
Pre-Teens & Teens: Some of the shows are aimed at older kids, like the upcoming "Hana's Suitcase," aimed at kids 10 and up.
Planning Notes
- Age matters. Different shows are aimed at different age groups, so be sure to check the suggested age range before you buy tickets.
