Adler Planetarium Description
Kids are fascinated by outer space: the planets, the stars, the galaxies far, far away... and there's no better way to get acquainted with the final frontier than by spending a few hours in a planetarium as good as the Adler. Offering kid-oriented shows for little ones, virtual reality programs that fascinate older kids and adults, and of course, plenty of interactive exhibits, it's easy to see why nearly 80 years after it opened, America's first planetarium is still a must-see attraction for tourists and locals alike.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Check out the Zula Patrol show, where little ones learn about the wild weather of various planets. The show is presented in the 360-degree planetarium theater. Geared toward kids ages 3-8, it's appropriate for even younger kids.
School-Age Kids: Head to the Doane Observatory, where a super-strong telescope allows kids up-close views of the moon, stars, and other far-away objects.
Pre-Teens & Teens: They'll enjoy the 3-D tour of the Milky Way, located in the Dynamic Gallery Theater.
Planning Notes
- Take public transportation to get there. The museum parking lot is pre-sold and not open to the public during some special events at the nearby Soldier Field. Parking is expensive anyway, so take public transit, if possible.
- Check ahead for Discount Days. Their site lists dates throughout the year where admission is free.
- Ask about the days special events. Your child may be able to get a telescope lesson, make a craft or project to take home, or do a computer activity.
