DuSable Museum of African-American History Description
Sometimes overlooked among Chicago's better-known cultural institutions, the DuSable Museum is worth a visit, particularly for school-aged and older kids who may be learning about the civil rights movement and African-American history in school, or grappling with tough issues about race and identity themselves. Located in Chicago's Hyde Park neighborhood near the University of Chicago -- an area tourists don't always make it to, but one that merits exploration -- the museum tells an important story of African-American history in Chicago and the rest of the U.S.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: There aren't many hands-on exhibits, so young children may get bored quickly. However, the museum isn't too big, so you don't have to stay all day. There's plenty to do in nearby Hyde Park, too.
Pre-Teens & Teens: If you haven't already, take the opportunity to have a serious conversation with your kids about race relations.
