Whitewater Rafting with White Cloud Rafting Adventures Description

White water rapids are nature's roller coaster, and kids will whoop it up on this rafting trip down the Salmon River. When they're not "riding the bull" at the front of the boat, kids will play river games, learn whitewater commands, even swim in the calm waters if they like. Rapids are class 2 and 3, easy to moderate — a safe but thrilling adventure with experienced guides. Take a half-day trip and be back in Sun Valley in time for dinner, or book a full day with lunch on shore.

Kid Tips

Toddlers & Pre-K: Consider a scenic float trip instead of a rafting trip. It's an easy ride on smooth water, and the guide does all the paddling so your hands (and attention) are free for the kids.

School-Age Kids: Bring snacks! Hungry kids are unhappy kids, and a quick energy bar or a handful of trail mix goes a long way.

Planning Notes

  • What to wear. A bathing suit under a T-shirt and shorts is ideal, just in case you decide to take as swim. Bring a water-resistant jacket -- it can get surprisingly chilly on the water, especially if you get wet — and wear shoes with non-slip treads. Avoid cotton clothing — once it's wet, it stays wet! Bring extra clothes for kids. A warm sweatshirt and dry pants can bring welcome warmth for the car ride home.
  • Prepare for sunshine. Bring a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses.
  • Reservations are encouraged, but not required. Some days sell out quickly, so call ahead if you can.
  • Gas up. The launch site is a one-hour drive from Sun Valley.
