Ice Skating at the Sun Valley Ice Rink Description
Would be speed skaters, ice dancers, and freestylers all indulge their ice skating fantasies or even take a lesson at this large and beautifully maintained outdoor rink. Those who'd rather keep their shoes on can grab a light snack on the Terrace and watch or take pictures. On Saturday nights during the summer, don't miss The Sun Valley Summer Ice Show, featuring Olympic and World Champion skaters. Open year round, the occasional star sighting spices it up even more, with Olympians and celebrities popping in for ice time.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Younger kids can get in on the skating action too! It's easiest if two adults (or bigger kids) are available to hold their hands.
School-Age Kids: Prepare kids to fall. A lot. Soft pants and a cushy jacket will cushion the blow. More advanced skaters might want to sign up for a private lesson.
Planning Notes
- Dress in layers.Winter days can be cold at this outdoor rink, and even in the summer the nights are cool. Be prepared to shed layers, though, as you warm up skating.
- Just rent. Rental skates are available for kids and grown-ups, and secure shoe storage is provided.
- Leave your bags behind. There are no lockers or cubbies, just open benches for anything you bring with you and don't want to carry on the ice.
- Drink up.Thirsty skaters can buy cold drinks from the vending machines inside. You can also find hot chocolate or a snack in the Lodge next door.
