Skiing and Snowboarding at Bald Mountain Description
Intermediates and experts will find a thrill a minute on Bald Mountain, affectionately known as Baldy. With a 3,400 foot vertical drop and runs as long as three miles, Baldy is a snow lover's paradise. Snowboarding teens won't find a snowboard park, but they'll have plenty of fun shredding the challenging terrain and catching big air. Younger kids from 6-12 will love the "Bald Eagles" day camp, where specialized instructors can help intermediate to expert skiers and boarders hone their technique.
Kid Tips
Babies: Young children from 3 months and older can enjoy the lodge's licensed daycare facility while the rest of the family skis.
School-Age Kids: Private lessons are available, but the "Bald Eagles" day camp also provides group lessons for kids ages 6-12. Advanced reservations are highly recommended; you can download a registration form from the Web site. You can also register in person on the day of the lesson, but only if space is available.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Cell phone service is fairly reliable on the mountain, but you may want to give teens walkie-talkies, or at least arrange a meeting point, then let them go off on their own.
Planning Notes
- Eat lunch at Seattle Ridge. Skiers can choose from five restaurants, but if your family can make it to the top of the mountain, Seattle Ridge Lodge and Lookout restaurants offer spectacular mountain views … a perfect photo-op for the family holiday card!
- Beginning skiers and boarders should go to Dollar Mountain instead. Beginners and rusty intermediates should warm up first at Dollar Mountain, a little over a mile away. Although Bald Mountain has plenty of green runs, many of them are closer to blue, and all the runs are longer, narrower, and steeper.
- Register for beginning and advanced lessons at River Run Lodge. If your kids ski at different levels, you can register them all for ski school at Bald Mountain. Beginning skiers will take a bus with their instructors to Dollar Mountain, a mile and a half away.
