Skiing at Dollar Mountain Description

Beginning skiers and rusty intermediates will have a great time on Dollar Mountain's gentle, tree-free slopes. Kids ages 4-12 have tons of fun in the camp-like ski and snowboard schools, while kids too young to ski can nap, eat, and play at Dollar Mountain Lodge's daycare center. The lodge, designed with children in mind, has lots of room for excited kids to run around, and includes full-service equipment rentals, large flat-screen TVs, a spacious restaurant with mountain views, and a heated deck for indoor/outdoor dining.

Kid Tips

Babies: Young children from 3 months and older can enjoy the lodge's licensed daycare facility while the rest of the family skis.

School-Age Kids: Kids ages 4-5 can take ski lessons in the camp called "Dollar Cubs." "Dollar Bears" is for kids ages 6-12, who ski or board at levels 1-4. The cost for both group includes lessons and lunch, but not lift tickets.

Planning Notes

  • Take a Lesson. Dollar Mountain is geared primarily to beginner and lower-intermediate skiiers and snowboarders. The ski and snowbard schools operate all day, and lessons are available for all ages, including adults. If your kids ski at different levels, register them all for ski school at River Run Lodge at Bald Mountain, a mile and a half away. Beginning skiers will take a bus with their instructors to Dollar Mountain.
  • Call ahead. Advanced reservations are highly recommended for group lessons. Registration forms can be downloaded from www.sunvalley.com, and must be received more than 48 hours in advance. You can also register in person on the day of the lesson, but only if space is available.
