Silver Mountain Resort Description
A four seasons resort, Silver Mountain began as a simple ski hill for locals, but has since added a village at the gondola base, luxury condominiums and a football field-sized indoor water park with a glorious glass roof that allows the sun to shine in, even in the winter. Summer mountain adventures include mountain biking and hiking, Frisbee golf and gondola rides, while winter brings the snow sports as well as tubing and a terrain park for those looking to sharpen their extreme skiing and snowboarding skills.
Kid Tips
Babies: Swim diapers are required for the water park, so be sure to pack one or stop into the gift shop on-site.
School-Age Kids: A variety of ski school packages are available for 5-year-olds and older, with plenty of options for various skill levels including private lessons.
Pre-Teens & Teens: In the summer months, movie nights take on a while new meaning — with movies projected on the walls of various buildings. Grab a blanket and some snacks, and settle in.
Planning Notes
- Drive time. The resort is about a half hour drive from downtown Coeur d'Alene, which in the winter can be a long drive at the end of a day, so consider staying overnight if the weather is great for skiing but not so much for driving.
- Shoulder season. During the shoulder seasons — May into early June, immediately following Labor Day through mid-November, hours, services and amenities may be reduced, so be sure to check with the resort about when the seasonal activities are offered.
- Take a ride. The 20-minute gondola ride is a treat anytime but especially in summer months, as the gondola passes closely to homes and the old silver mines on its way up the mountain.
