Coeur d'Alene City Park & Beach Description

The downtown park is full of fun, from the large public beach (with lifeguards in the summer months), to the huge playground designed after the adjacent Fort Sherman, and the piece de resistance: the world's longest floating boardwalk, which creates the marina at the foot of the Coeur d'Alene Resort. The beach is the local social scene for teens, who mix well with families and couples. Kayak and motorboat rentals are available right at the pier and resort, while the more adventurous can try parasailing during the summer.

Kid Tips

Toddlers & Pre-K: The floating boardwalk is an adventurous walk — meaning there's no handrail for holding on to. So be sure to hold hands at all times with little ones.

School-Age Kids: The playground area is a delight for any age; built as a fort, it brings out the imagination in school-aged kids who are sure to play cowboys and indians

Pre-Teens & Teens: Teens get into the fun with games of hide-and-seek with their younger siblings or each other.

Planning Notes

  • Boardwalk babies. The boardwalk is not stroller-friendly, as there is a bridge with walk-up steps, so leave the stroller in the car for the boardwalk portion of the fun and put baby in a Bjorn instead.
  • Be senisble. From the boardwalk, which can get wet when the lake is high or the weather is windy, to the wooden playground structure, there's no room for flip-flops, even though that's the preferred footwear for the beach. So bring along both or wear shoes that can handle all the environments.

Just the Facts

Hours: The park and boardwalk are open 24 hours daily, although loitering in the park after dark is not allowed.
