Mudgy & Millie Trail Description
Along a scenic trail that winds through downtown Coeur d'Alene, Mudgy the moose searches for his friend Millie — a tiny mouse with a huge sense of humor. Local author (and Wee Sing creator) Susan Nipp whipped up the pair with the help of an illustrator friend and local artist Terry Lee, who recreated the characters in whimsical, life-size bronze sculptures that instantly engage the imagination of both parents and children alike. The game of hide-and-seek starts at the base of Tubbs Hill and ends at Independence Point, with colorful signs pointing the way to fun.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: The youngest children will delight in finding little Millie, so make that their task at each sculpture.
School-Age Kids: The excellent trail maps — available at the Coeur d'Alene Visitor's Center and the Web site — are a perfect way to introduce school-aged children to navigating, giving them the chance to lead the way on the search for Mudgy and Millie.
Planning Notes
- Everybody sing. There's a Mudgy and Millie song on the trail's Web site, complete with hand motions. Learn it ahead of time for on-the-trail fun.
- Stroll and go. The entire trail is about two miles long, so bring a stroller for toddlers or simply split the trail up with a daily adventure to the next statue.
- Climb time. Climbing up onto Mudgy's antlers or back is positively encouraged — the statues were built entirely for that purpose with steel rods reinforcing the bronze.
