Polynesian Cultural Center Description

At the Polynesian Cultural Center, families visit villages representing Hawaii, Samoa, Fiji, Tahiti, Tonga, and more. Costumed performers give an authentic feeling to each village, and families learn the traditional greeting of each Polynesian island group and participate in hands-on activities. "Keiki" (or "children") learn to dance hula, play an assortment of Polynesian games, throw a spear, and fish like a Tahitian. Kids love making a variety of take-home crafts, and will leave this attraction temporarily tattooed and thoroughly tired out.

Kid Tips

Babies: There's plenty of room for a lightweight stroller, and children 2 and under enter for free.

Toddlers & Pre-K: While they may not understand it all, there's plenty for little ones to take in.

School-Age Kids: Hands-on activities such as tree climbing (to get a coconut, of course!) and spear-throwing get kids into the act.

Pre-Teens & Teens: Assure your teen that this is definitely a hot spot for fun. Especially when he has a chance to learn the skill of fire knife dancing!

Planning Notes

  • Check the website. The Polynesian Cultural Center offers a variety of packages to choose from.
  • To temple or not? The Polynesian Cultural Center is owned and operated by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormon Church). Though the center tries to keep the cultural content separate from its religious affiliation, it does offer a “temple tour” which can get religious in nature. If this is uncomfortable for you, avoid this offering.
  • Pick up a passport to Polynesia. With this program, kids get a passport and a stamp from each island culture they visit. Collect at least four stamps, and get a free souvenir.
  • Get wheels. There are a limited number of strollers and wheelchairs available for rental at the center.
  • Wear comfortable shoes. With so much ground to cover, comfortable shoes are essential.
  • Go back for more. With their “free within three” special, visitors who purchase any all-day packages are invited to return to the Polynesian Cultural Center within three days, for free.
  • Listen up. Check the website for audio of some of the songs you’ll hear during your visit so you can try to sing along.
  • Prepare for the sun. Bring hats and sunscreen for when you're walking around.
  • Expect to pay (sometimes hefty) extra fees. All of the activities aren’t included in the entry price, and if you’ve got hungry kids, you might consider stashing an ice chest full of snacks in your car for a less expensive lunch.
