Waipa Farmers Market

Farmers Market
Waipa Farmers Market Description
Although there are other farmers markets on the island, this unique farmers market is not sponsored by the county and is one of the only ones where you will be able to buy homemade goods of all kinds: baked delights, jams made from locally grown fruits like liliko'i, and local honey. The market is sponsored by the Waipa Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to restoring the land and finding more sustainable ways to practice agriculture. Visiting it is not a usual tourist activity but one that will give your family a deeper understanding and appreciation of Kauai (and make your tummies happy).
Kid Tips
Babies: Leave the stroller in the car and carry the wee one as the path is not stroller friendly.
School-Age Kids: There's lots of interesting fruit and other foods to try if yours has an adventurous palate, including logan fruit, lychee nuts, and cherimoya (depending on what's in season).
Pre-Teens & Teens: You may be among the only nonresidents at the market, and your older kids will appreciate having a genuine cultural experience.
Planning Notes
- A bit tricky to find. Make sure to review the driving instructions before you go.
- Check the foundation Web site for other events. Poi-pounding workshops and community service days are other events that visitors can participate in.
- Bring small bills and change. Cash is the only way to pay.
Just the Facts
Hours: The market is held every Tuesday at 2 p.m. and usually lasts about an hour or so.
