Cowboys of Hawaii at Parker Ranch Description
Located on the largest working cattle ranch on the Big Island (Parker Ranch spans 130,000 acres including up to 5,000 feet in elevation up Mauna Kea, has 35,000 head of cattle and exports 12 million pounds of beef yearly), Cowboys of Hawaii has 30 well-cared-for rental horses and offers both horseback and ATV rides. Mount a leopard appaloosa or a bay quarterhorse (Blue has a brown coat and blue eyes!) and walk, trot, and canter across rolling grasslands while a guide tells you about the history of cattle ranching on the Big Island. Unlike other stables, your family can spread out, ride off the trails, and kick the horses to a faster pace, depending on skill level.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Though too young to ride, they will enjoy the other animals — dogs, cats, calves, pigs, and sheep — on the property
School-Age Kids: Children ages 7 and upare welcome to ride and there are several gentle but responsive horses (ask for Ka'ala) who will take care of first-time riders.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Experienced riders are allowed to canter as fast as they feel comfortable going.
Planning Notes
- These are all-weather rides. Raincoats will be provided if needed.
- Dress right. Long pants and covered shoes (or boots) recommended.
- Bring a jacket. At 3,000 feet above sea level, the weather can be unpredictable in Kamuela.
- Fun for every age. All levels welcome.
