Juliette Gordon Low Birthplace Description
Even if your kids aren't in Girl Scouts, the birthplace of the founder of this all-American group is a great place to visit. Guided tours leave every fifteen minutes and you get to see everything, from a cross section of the building's foundation (weird!) to a curious illusion picture (also weird). The tour includes some details about the Girl Scouts and a lot of fun information about Juliette Gordon Low (whose uncle dubbed her Daisy -- hence the nickname for all 5-year-old Girl Scouts).
Kid Tips
Babies: Not a great place for babies, as you can't sit on the furniture or touch anything. If there are babies in your group, have someone stay outside with them in the house's charming courtyard.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Ditto for toddlers. More advanced preschoolers will love looking in the house but the mandatory guided tour may push the limits of their attention span.
School-Age Kids: Lots to intrigue this age group, from Juliette Gordon Low's original ideas about recrafting furniture to the old fashioned high chair and fireplace sofa (which is on wheels so you can roll away if the fire gets too hot).
Pre-Teens & Teens: Especially if you have a Girl Scout connection, your teens will enjoy this house.
Planning Notes
- Don't come hungry. No food, drink, or gum is allowed in the museum and there are no food services available, so eat before you visit.
- Strollers are okay. The tour is stroller- and wheelchair-accessible, but you'll have to take the elevator. If you want to stay with the group, leave your stroller behind.
- Bring a sweater. Even though it's likely to be hot outside, the house is air- conditioned and your kids will get chilly inside.
