Old Savannah Ghost Tours Description

"Are y'all believers?" the guide asks at the beginning of the ghost trolley tour. "Because I need to tell y'all upfront. I believe in ghosts. And a lot of folks who go on my tour who aren't believers change their minds by the end ...." The Spanish moss that hangs from the live oak trees gives Savannah a creepy (albeit beautiful) feel. There are trolley tours on every corner of Savannah and you can't visit the city without going on one, but the ghost tours are the best for kids, and Savannah by nightfall is beautiful to grown-ups (and nonbelievers) as well.

Kid Tips

Toddlers & Pre-K: May be too spooky for the littlest kids, though they won't follow what the guide is saying and they will like the view of Savannah by moonlight (and probably fall asleep).

School-Age Kids: There are a lot of scary details on this ride that school-age children will either love or be terrified by (all the stories about kids locked away in attics can get to them after awhile).

Pre-Teens & Teens: A perfect outing for a pre-teen or teen. Spooky history, lots of action, and some surprises.

Planning Notes

  • Bring a camera. Sometimes ghosts manifest themselves as orbs, which are captured on film but not seen by the naked eye. Your guide may pass around some photos like these and if you bring a camera maybe you'll snap a ghoul or two.
  • Bring a jacket. The ghost tours are usually at dusk or at night and it may get chilly after sunset.
  • Leave the stroller at home. Though you can fold up your stroller and leave it by your seat, the trolleys aren't really stroller accessible.
  • Be on time. The trolley driver will pick you up at your hotel at the appointed time. If your family isn't ready, the whole tour will be waiting for you (can you say embarrassing?).
  • Bring some cash. It's a courtesy to tip the driver so bring a few small bills.
