Forsyth Park Description

Kids will love this vast neighborhood park, with its shaded pathways, small botanical garden, play structures, and expansive lawns where people play soccer and ultimate Frisbee. One big hit is sure to be the fountain, modeled after the one in Paris' Place de la Concorde. Kids won't care about that, of course, but they'll love its mermen spouting water from their trumpets, and swans spouting water from their open mouths. In the summer and on the weekends the park hosts music and other performances.

Kid Tips

Babies: There's nothing -- except the mosquitoes --babies won't like in this park.

Toddlers & Pre-K: One of the two modern play structures is designed for children ages 2-5. Kids this age will also love the fountain (though they can't actually go in the water).

School-Age Kids: The other play structure is for kids ages 5-12. Kids this age will also love the whole spooky feel of the park, with its Spanish-moss-covered oaks and falling acorns.

Pre-Teens & Teens: So what, Mom, another fountain? If you're traveling with teens to Savannah, they'll be more impressed by other places (spooky movie tours anyone?).

Planning Notes

  • Bring bug spray. The mosquitoes in Savannah are hungry and in abundance in the shadier parts of the park.
  • Wear your walking shoes. Your kids will be running amok and you'll be right there after them, so make sure everyone has on their walking shoes.
  • Bring a bike or a scooter. The wide lanes of the park are perfect for roller skates, scooters, or kid bikes.

Just the Facts
