Fernbank Museum of Natural History Description
The first thing you see when you walk into the huge brick-and-glass atrium are skeletons of an enormous Argentinosaurus locked in mortal combat with a T. Rex-like Giganotosaurus -- and it only gets better from there. Light, open and exciting, this museum is easy for families to get around. Accompanying all the intriguing exhibits are naturalists who bring live animals around for visitors to touch and learn about. If you're with older kids, don't miss the jaw-dropping IMAX shows that change every hour.

Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: They'll enjoy looking for fossils that are inlaid in the floor. Many of the exhibits are hands-on and just right for this age group.
School-Age Kids: Even if yours isn't a naturalist or dinosaur obsessed, there is a lot for school-aged kids to do at Fernbank.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Back-to-back IMAX anyone?
Planning Notes
- Get the super-value pass. This gets you admission plus two different IMAX films. They're only 45 minutes, and how often do you get to see two?
- Parking is no problem. The Fernbank has great parking with ample space. Don't leave valuables in the car, though.
- Stroller-friendly. The museum is spacious, even when crowded, and there's ample room for strollers.
- Close to Emory University. If you have any energy left after the Fernbank, drive less than 10 minutes to Emory and take a walk around the campus or get a snack at Emory's Carlos Museum of Art's café, which has nice outdoor seating.
