Kangaroo Conservation Center Description

With more than 300 kangaroos, this place is unique and a little hokey, in a way kids will enjoy. You start off with a boomerang demonstration, then board a Kanga-ranger -- a truck big enough to haul 90 passengers -- and go on a narrated tour of the center's extensive fields. This is followed by a live animal show where your children will get very close to and can even pet a live kangaroo. They'll also learn about Australia's other wildlife and see some gorgeous birds up close. After that, you are free to explore the grounds and go on the center's easy hikes. This is a fascinating and educational way for your family to spend the day.

Kid Tips

School-Age Kids: Children 8 and older will be fascinated by this tour and will especially enjoy the "Billabong Encounter," where they will see the largest pigeon in the world, Australian bearded dragons, and other fascinating wildlife.

Planning Notes

  • Tours are for older kids only. Tours are for kids 8 and older.
  • Follow directions carefully. The Center is about one hour and 20 minutes north of Atlanta (without traffic). Get directions to the center from its Web site; they aren't very detailed, but they are reliable. Bring a map with you as well.
  • Get a good seat on the ranger. If the group is large, the seats on the Kanga-ranger fill up. Have someone in your family stake out front seats so you can all sit together and get a good view.
  • Wear sensible shoes. You'll want to spend some time hiking and walking around the fields, so comfortable footwear is a must.
