Center for Puppetry Arts Description
The moment you walk into this center you know you're in a magical place, whether you've come for a show or just to look around the displays and gift shop. It is the largest nonprofit dedicated to puppetry arts in the United States, and it has a variety of family-friendly puppet shows throughout the year (and experimental puppet theater for mature audiences as well). Less well known than other attractions, a puppet show here is a must-see for families with kids.
Kid Tips
Babies: Babies in the looking-around phase will enjoy shows for the youngest kids, such as Winnie-the-Pooh.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Kids under two who sit on laps get in for free, and will love the shows geared to their age group. Some of the bigger and scarier puppets on display might be too much for them, though.
School-Age Kids: An intriguing place for school-aged kids, who will love the performances. Some of the museum puppets are delightfully scary and eery.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Check the website for performances designed specifically with teens in mind (like a creepy ghoulish puppet show in time for Halloween).
Planning Notes
- Bring a picnic. No snack bar at this museum, but a large lawn is picnic-ready.
- Close to MARTA. The museum is two blocks away from the Arts Center station, an easy walk. If you choose to drive, parking is free.
