Atlanta History Center Description
Located in Buckhead, the Atlanta History Center is much more interesting than its name suggests. Not just for history buffs, this interactive museum has gorgeous gardens, two houses to tour (the Swan House and the Tullie Smith Farm), and a lot to keep children engaged. There are themed gardens, nice strolls, and "Magic Mondays," an hour-long educational program for toddlers under 5. As you learn about the history and ecology of the South, and folk art, Native Americans, and famous Atlantans, your kids will visit a real Victorian playhouse and see museum staff dressed in period clothing.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Although this museum is geared toward older children, the nature trails have walking paths that toddlers will enjoy. Check the website for special programming.
Planning Notes
- Wear your walking shoes. Make time to explore the grounds, but know that some paths may be rocky.
- Parking is plentiful. MARTA's not that convenient (you have to take a bus from the MARTA station), so consider driving.
- Timing is everything. The house tours close an hour and a half before the center itself, so if your family wants to see them, plan accordingly.
