Zoo Atlanta Description
The elephants may fling poop at you when you're in the Elephant House (maybe they don't like it in there?) but the Atlanta Zoo is a favorite for families. There's a rock wall to climb, a train to ride, an old-fashioned carousel, a nice playground, gorgeous flamingoes, and some animals you won't find at most zoos, like meerkats and kangaroos. An air- conditioned reptile house is home to an impressive collection of native and exotic snakes, turtles, and alligators.

Kid Tips
Babies: Wagons and strollers are available for rent at the entrance.
Toddlers & Pre-K: The playground, with its handwashing stations and nice play structures, is a good place for this age group. The train and petting zoo are also favorites.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Giant pandas, animals from the African savannah, and the reptile house are big draws for teenagers. Most other zoo attractions are geared toward younger children.
Planning Notes
- Enjoy Grant Park as well. The zoo is located in historic Grant Park, which also has the Cyclorama, nice walking trails, and picnic areas, so consider bringing a picnic and eating in the park.
- Buy tickets online. The zoo gets busy in the summer, on the weekends, and during school holidays. If you can't avoid going at peak season, buy your tickets here and save yourself some much-needed time.
- Attractions are as interesting as the animals. There's a lot of fun in this zoo besides the live animals, so don't be surprised if your kids are more interested in the animal sculptures, interactive computer information, and the rides.
