Petit Bateau Description
This popular chain (there are Petit Bateau stores all over Paris) sells the most adorable baby and children's clothes, often with très chic French writing on the front. They also sell maternity clothes and clothes for teens and adults, mostly all cotton or cotton-and-wool blends. This store is sunny and cheerful with white walls, high ceilings, and a helpful staff. Unlike other retail outlets in Paris, at Petit Bateau children are welcomed and there's drawing paper and crayons at the back of the store so kids can color while parents shop.
Kid Tips
Babies: The baby clothes are the best, and be sure to check out the onsies for babies, cleverly designed to get on and off easily and so no tag touches a baby's sensitive skin.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Sizes at Petit Bateau are by age group (age 18 and up will fit an adult) and tend to run smaller than American sizes.
Planning Notes
- Not far from the Arc de Triumphe. Combine a shopping slurge to Petit Bateau with a more historical outing to the Arch de Triumphe (just walk west on avenue Victor Hugo to Place Charles de Gaulle).
- Take the Metro. The store is just a few blocks from Metro Victor Hugo.
- Chocolate anyone? Patrick Roger is just down the street.
