Twilight Zone Tower of Terror™ Description

The heart of this thrill-seekers' delight is a 13-story elevator ride ... straight down. Never ones to be satisfied with just a "main event," Disney ramped it up, housing the ride in a creepy "hotel," menacing everyone with vintage-costumed bellhops who ominously thank you for "dropping in" and adding stellar special effects to tell the back-story of the original ill-fated elevator occupants (suffice it to say it didn't end well for them). All that, plus when the doors open briefly at the top of the tower, you get a stellar view of the park -- assuming your eyes are open.

Kid Tips

School-Age Kids: With great effects and super excitement, it's tempting to want to nudge your kids into riding. Let the kids decide -- and accept it if they're not ready.

Planning Notes

  • For the fantasy-minded. The height requirement is 40 inches, which means some younger kids can't ride.
  • Eyes wide open. The best views of the entire park are at the top of the ride.
  • Picture perfect. You'll see just how brave you were in photos (available in the gift shop) snapped just as the elevator goes down.
  • Rent it. Watch "Tower of Terror" starring Kristen Dunst before your trip to kick the excitement up a notch.

Second Best to Everest as Top Ride at WDW!!!

What we loved:
EVERYTHING!!!

What we didn't love:
Oh - just the long lines!!!

I totally like this ride as my second favorite in the entire resort to Expedition Everest in Disneys Animal Kingdom! The best part has to be the freefalling sensation that most everyone gets to love or fear. The pictures onride could be worthy of a quirk souvenir, as they humor many guests exiting the ride. br/br/My suggestions for experiencing it are to obtain a Fastpass as I usually do, particularly in peak seasons or to go in off-seasons, such as January. Dont assume that the Super Bowl Weekend in Tampa, near my home, is one of them because there is a possibility of a peak season.. Oh, and dont ride on a full stomach.br/br/The reasons why I rated only four stars on the school aged kids category are because not all are tall enough or brave enough to go on the ride. Overall, its a thrill to ride it while at Disneys Hollywood Studios! Read More
