Caladesi Island State Park Description
Consistently rated as one of the nation's top beaches, a trip to secluded Caladesi Island State Beach won't disappoint. The warm, crystal-clear water, gentle waves, and soft white sand entice kids of all ages to romp along the shallow shoreline. More active visitors can explore the island's interior via a mangrove-covered kayak trail (rentals are available) or hike along the three-mile nature trail. Take advantage of every minute on the island -- visitors arriving via ferry are limited to a four-hour stay.
Kid Tips
Babies: Beach chairs and umbrellas can be rented from the concession stand.
Toddlers & Pre-K: If the beach isn't entertaining enough, visit the playground in the picnic area, which has swings, slides, and crawl-on equipment.
Planning Notes
- Accessible only by boat. True to its name, the beach is accessible only by ferry (from Honeymoon Island State Park) or private boat. Ferry reservations are essential, particularly during the summer months and school holiday breaks (727-734-1501). Admission to Honeymoon Island State Park is $5 per car (up to eight people); ferry fees are an additional $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 4 to 12 (3 and younger free).
- Ample facilities. The park has bathrooms, showers, a snack bar, and picnic tables.
- Extend the fun. If four hours on Caladesi Island isn't enough beach time (or if ferry reservations aren't available), head to the beach at Honeymoon Island State Park. Its beaches, although sometimes crowded, share many of Caladesi's qualities.
