Dali Museum Description
Even kids who think art is boring will be transfixed by a visit to this small museum, the permanent home of the world's most extensive collection of Salvador Dali's work. Best known for his surrealist paintings (several of his most famous works are on display), the museum highlights pieces from his entire career (including drawings, photographs, sculptures, and watercolors) that will captivate and mesmerize teenagers and inspire budding artists of all ages.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: Kids 4 and younger are admitted free to the museum.
School-Age Kids: Introduce kids ages 5 to 10 to Dali's works during the Breakfast with Dali program, offered the first Saturday of each month. Kids and their parents take an interactive guided tour through the museum that teaches kids about the works through activities and discussion, followed by breakfast with the docent.
Planning Notes
- Small but engaging. Although the physical space of the museum is small, plan to spend at least 90 minutes viewing the exhibits. The extensive gift shop alone is worthy of a visit, offering books, prints, jewelry, children's art supplies, and more.
- Surreal fun. Pick up a treasure hunt brochure at the admission desk upon arrival for an engaging game of I-Spy. Kids search for various symbols in Dali's works, then receive a free gift in the museum store.
- Admission savings. Check the Dali Museum Web site for coupons and special offers.
- Dali on the move. A new Dali Museum is currently under construction, slated to open in early 2011.
