Bill Baggs State Park Description
There are no shortages of beaches in Miami, but if you want one that feels like you've been transported back in time, head for the 1.2 miles of beach at Bill Baggs State Park. Sand, dunes, seagulls, and lots of native vegetation in this undeveloped shoreline make you forget you're only 15 minutes from the heart of the city. Cap off your visit by renting bikes for a scenic trip along the paved paths and by taking a free, 109-step guided climb to the top of the 1846 lighthouse.
Kid Tips
Babies: With proper sun protection, they'll love snoozing on the beach, and dangling their feet into the warm, blue ocean.
Toddlers & Pre-K: They'll want to jump waves for hours. To tour the huge park via bike, fit them cozily in a family surrey.
School-Age Kids: Kids 8 and over will adore the lighthouse climb. Cap that off with the beach and maybe a bike ride (kids' size rentals are available)
Pre-Teens & Teens: The beach appeals to every age. Thankfully, even biking and climbing a lighthouse are fun for teens.
Planning Notes
- Climb the lighthouse. And call ahead for the schedule. Be sure to arrive early, as only 20 climbers (ages 8 and older) are permitted.
- Bring a beach umbrella. You can also rent one (and chairs) if that's easier.
- Bring sunscreen. Goes without saying.
- Bring a picnic. Although tables are available, it's more beautiful to eat right on the sand. You can also buy a good Cuban meal at a nearby outdoor restaurant.

What we loved:
The Bike Trail
What we didn't love:
Nothing
We took our 2 year old Daughter here for the afternoon. We played in the waves had a picnic lunch and rented a Surrey bike for the bike trail. We all had a blast. The beach was beautiful. It felt so relaxing to not have any big hotels or businesses around. We did not do the lighthouse but the entire park was beautiful. They also had a playground. Read More
