Theater of the Sea Description
This marine park hails from 1946, and it looks like it. But kids still get a thrill watching shows featuring a sea lion spanking itself (in addition to the requisite nose-ball balancing); dolphins leaping out and then kissing lucky kids on the cheek; and parrots performing feats of memory and math. Even the bottomless boat ride (a mere 10-minute tour around a small lagoon) excites kids when they get splashed by dolphins jumping alongside. A small lagoon "beach" may be the highlight: Kids can swim in the midst of colorful tropical fish.
Kid Tips
Babies: They'll love to relax on your lap during the dolphin and sea lion shows, and to swim with the fishies. Bring a stroller if you plan to do the nature walk and guided marine life tour.
Toddlers & Pre-K: Don't let them miss the dolphin and sea lion shows, but consider skimping on the others to spend more time at the swimming lagoon.
School-Age Kids: They'll like all the presentations, but if you're pressed for time and they want to swim in the lagoon, pass on the marine life tour and view the sea creatures quickly yourself.
Planning Notes
- Bring a bathing suit. Swimming in a lagoon filled with big tropical fish is great kid fun. Also bring snorkel masks and towels if you have, or you can rent them here.
- Food and water aren't allowed inside. Come before or after lunch or eat at the site's outdoor grill.
- Leave the Heelys at home. Kids are prohibited from wearing them in the park.
- Allow enough time to be here. The schedule has five 30-minute shows running several times daily; school-age kids will want to see them all.
