Shell World Description
Nothing will remind you of your Keys visit more than seashells. And while you can (and should) amass your own take-home collection from the shoreline, this is the place to find beautiful, rare, and fascinating shells from around the world. Almost a hands-on museum, kids can carefully examine and/or purchase everything from large conch shells to spindly starfish to beautiful abalones. Look beyond the rows of beautiful shells to also find more elaborate creations, from shell boxes and necklaces to hokey "statues" of shell people sitting around a shell table playing cards.
Kid Tips
Toddlers & Pre-K: They'll not only love touching the shells, they'll delight in such creations as a coconut dressed up like a pirate.
School-Age Kids: Kids who enjoy marine biology can read where the various shells hail from; others will simply like the neat stuff that's made from them.
Planning Notes
- Keep toddlers strapped in their stroller. Although the store is happy to have children touch their treasures, there are a fair amount of breakables within reach of little hands.
- Adults can find things too. In addition to shells and weird souvenirs, you can splurge for nautical furnishings or gorgeous shell artwork for your own memento.
