Puppet Theatre Barge Description
Want to meet Brer Santa, Babushka Baboon and Scrooge? Moored in the area of London known as Little Venice, this puppet theater is spectacular. You board a ship to enter floating the theater and once the lights are dimmed the show takes you to a magical place where the puppets are so animated and quixotic, and the English accents so delightful, that your family will think the marionettes must be alive. Although it's been described as one of London's "hidden treasures," these popular-with-Londoner shows sell out quickly, as the theater only seats 55 audience members and show times are limited.
Kid Tips
Babies: Leave the stroller behind. The barge isn't wheelchair accessible and wrestling a stroller on board is not recommended.
Toddlers & Pre-K: A visual delight for this age, expect them to want to see the show again and again.
Pre-Teens & Teens: Puppet shows are usually thought of for younger kids but these are so visually interesting and well executed that even older kids will enjoy them.
Planning Notes
- Get your tickets in advance. Click the "Book Now" button under each show description on the home page to buy tickets on-line.
- Consider taking the (water) bus. You can get to the barge, which is north of town, by Tube (Warwick Avenue on the Bakerloo Line), bus (routs 6, 8, 16, 18, and 46), train (walk 15 minutes along the canal tow path from Paddington Station), or water bus! The waterbus runs from Camden Lock Market to Little Venice every hour and takes 45 minutes of very pleasant riverside travel. For more information, check the Web site.
