The Puppet Company Description

This award-winning puppet theater created especially for children, has built up a large repertoire of stories told using hand puppets, rod puppets, body puppets, marioneetes and shadow puppets. Performances scheduled in 2010 include "Rapunzel," "Beauty and the Beast," "Cinderella," "Sleeping Beauty" and Len Piper's "Pinocchio." These are recommended for kids ages 5 and up. For the 0-4 age group, there are "Tiny Tot" shows which are shorter, have the lights on and the doors open, and are set up on the floor, not the stage. Be sure to check out our other Glen Echo Park vacation ideas.

Planning Notes

  • Check the schedule. Regular puppet show times vary, but are generally Friday through Sunday with two shows per day. Tickets are $10 per person. "Tiny Tot" shows are generally Wednesday and Saturday mornings at 10:00 am. Tickets for those are $5.
  • Seating options. For the puppet shows, most kids sit on the floor close to the stage, while their parents sit on carpeted stair-like benches behind them. There are a few wood benches on the sides near the stage which are reserved for grandparents and others who need back support.
  • Park and walk. With small children, give yourself at least 10 minutes to walk from the parking lot through the park to the theatre. Go over the wooden foot bridge and follow the path up to the Carousel. The Puppet Company is to the left of the Carousel.
